First of all the available modes are not detected correctly and then changing them by xorg entry also fails. Also I dont understand why the display settings change at the first place!! Is intended to minimize risk to people dragging them accidentally. May seem crazy to us but I definitely saw this plenty while supporting windows desktops...and what was worse was that people didn't know what happened so just ignored it.
